This month brings about a rather more laid back approach to the recreation of the carriage.
With the majority of the passenger’s side of the carriage complete, leaving very limited finishing touches to do, the team decided that they would play around with a few finishing ideas for the exterior of the carriage.
As the month started KSEL FINALLY tracked down and selected a wood paint for the outside of the carriage! Hurrah! If you’ll remember, a few months ago, the KSEL team could be found hoarding a large supply of different paints from the nearby Homebase stores in the hope that one colour would’ve matched what we wanted. And, if you’ll remember rightly, none of those wood stains were good enough. Since then, however, the team have hunted down a variety of different paints online and eventually, after purchasing many more samples, we have decided on a colour! The new matte colouring for the carriage finally makes all of the mix and match wood underneath look the same colour! The new colour has shed a brand new lease of life to the carriage and the team are so excited to finish the outside of the passenger’s side soon.
Later in the month, the team decided that the carriage was stable enough, and the weather was nice enough, to start tampering with the roof. When the carriage was converted into a shed, the previous owners must’ve put some sort of guttering along the sides of the carriage. Perhaps this was to stop the already rotten wood from getting worse, or perhaps it was to finish off the overall ‘shed’ look. Whatever the case may be, the team have decided to rectify the situation in a desperate attempt to get the carriage looking as un-shed like as humanly possible. The team riped off all the guttering alongside the outer wall of the carriage, and sanded down all of the wood which was underneath it. In the not so distant future, that the false added roof will be able to come completely off and we can begin to tamper with what potentially scary secrets lie underneath!
As it just so happens, the KSEL residence is having their kitchen completely re-done so, being the eco-friendly engineers that we are, we have decided to make a patio for the carriage comprising of the entity of our kitchen as part of the foundations. The foundations for the patio are almost completely laid as this blog is being posted, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to the front of the carriage before the team are able to take any photographs yet!
We can’t wait to finally finish the carriage and we can safety say that, quite literally, we are able to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the passenger side of the carriage! But who knows what’s in store for the guard’s half….
